Description

Ambrosia maple is one of my favorite woods to work with. It’s not a specie of maple; rather, it’s regular maple that has been visited by the ambrosia beetle. As it burrows into the tree, it leaves a trail which produces some gorgeous contrast and coloration in the grain. Though the beetle is long gone, and the wood has been appropriately dried before turning, the coloration persists, and sometimes you get tiny holes that add that extra touch of character to the piece. You can see two in the center piece in the picture, just below the top.

I decided to leave some areas square on these and turn other areas round or sloped. This is a little trickier than turning the whole thing round and shaping it from there. It definitely makes the sanding process more laborious, but the end result, I think, has a lot of character. My wife named this set because the shape reminded her of bottles. She’s not wrong!

This is a unique set of 3 that each hold a single tea light or votive. They measure 2-1/2″, 3-1/4″, and 4″ tall, respectively.
