Captive rings take a lot of extra time and effort. Getting the minor axis of the torus to be as circular as possible takes finesse and a lot of concentration. Sanding it from 100 grit all the way up to 400 grit also takes a long time. But the results are definitely worth it. Your guests will wonder how I got the ring on it. I didn’t. It was always there – from the same piece of walnut that makes up the central part of the inner pillar. And no, the candlestick isn’t two pieces screwed together.
